I’m Kit Gee, a potter and kintsugi* worker based in Wales, U.K., where I enjoy big skies, bonfires and working with my hands.

I began creating kintsugi pieces after four years of talking - in a previous job - about this practice as a metaphor for emotional and relational repair. Kintsugi led me to clay and clay led me back outdoors to clay-foraging and an interest in alternative firings involving barbecues, pits, bonfires, and barrels.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the essential nature of pleasure. Each piece that I create is a pleasure to me and, I hope, a pleasure for you. Each kintsugi repair that I do invites you- and me- to find the joy and the sacred in the everyday items and moments that populate our lives, homes and lived environments it.

I produce handmade ceramics, typically as one-offs, limited editions or in explorative series. Working in this way allows me to deep-dive into specific techniques and materials whilst also remaining dynamic as an artist; the best of both worlds 2/3 ¼ ¾ ½.

Over time, my work has evolved to explore touch and tactility, often combining ancient techniques with modern materials to engage in a creative conversation with our early/earlier human ancestors and the objects and artworks that they were producing.

My process welcomes in elements of chance and responds to the natural environment around my studio and home. My kintsugi work and ceramics work celebrate rather than erase the material stories of the pieces I touch and I invite you to become part of their stories, too, by viewing my gallery, making a purchase or booking a repair.

*Kintsugi

The ancient Japanese practice of mending broken ceramics with gold. For traditional repair, I usually work with gold leaf of 23 karat and above. For modern repair, I use a selection of gold powders and micas to suit your budget. In addition to ceramic repairs, I welcome unusual kintsugi repair commissions. I’ve kintsugi-ed fruit, photographs, gemstones, stained glass, vinyl records, ritual objects, stone walls, living trees, mirror balls and people…
